We’ve all been there, gliding along nicely, then suddenly your board slows to a crawl as weeds wrap around your fin. The NRS SUP Board Grass Fin is designed to eliminate that frustration, giving you a clean, uninterrupted glide even in shallow, weedy water.
This isn’t just a niche accessory, it’s a must have fin for UK paddling conditions, where weeds, reeds and shallow stretches are part of everyday adventures.
The defining feature of this fin is its swept-back profile, specifically engineered to prevent snagging.
If you paddle in summer conditions, canals, or inland waterways, this fin will quickly become your go to.
With a shorter height of 13.5 cm, the NRS SUP Board Grass Fin is ideal when depth is limited.
You get practical usability without sacrificing too much tracking performance.
Made from nylon-reinforced plastic, this fin is built to take knocks and keep going.
It’s ideal for paddlers who don’t always have pristine launch spots.
The tethered locking tab system makes installation simple and reliable.
This is the same style of fin supplied with the NRS Clipper paddle board, making it a smart addition to your kit.
At SUP Funk, we paddle in the same real world conditions you do so we know how valuable the right fin can be. The NRS SUP Board Grass Fin isn’t just a backup option, it’s a problem solver that keeps your sessions flowing.
If you want to spend less time clearing weeds and more time enjoying your paddle, this is the upgrade your NRS paddle board needs.
If you paddle in:
Weedy lakes ,Canals, Shallow rivers, Summer algae conditions
Then yes, a grass fin can make a huge difference to your experience, reducing drag and frustration.
Slightly but in a good way for certain conditions. While it may not track quite as straight as a long touring fin, it still provides solid directional stability, especially considering its weed shedding benefits.
Yes. In fact, beginners often benefit the most because:
It reduces unexpected stops from snagging
Makes paddling feel smoother and more predictable
Builds confidence in shallow or unfamiliar water
Absolutely. It works fine in deeper water, but it really shines in shallow, weedy conditions where standard fins struggle. If you are only paddling deeper waters then we recommend one of the longer fins.
Grass fin → Shorter, swept-back design to avoid weeds
All water → Slightly longer to improve tracking in deeper water
Touring fin → Longer, straighter design for maximum tracking
Many paddlers switch between the three depending on conditions.
This fin is compatible with:
All NRS inflatable SUP boards
STAR iSUP boards
Older NRS models
It’s also a direct replacement for fins supplied with boards like the Clipper and Jukdo.
Yes. The tethered locking tab system allows for quick, tool-free installation. It’s designed to be simple, secure and easy to swap.
Yes. The nylon-reinforced plastic construction makes it:
Strong and impact-resistant
Suitable for shallow water use
Built for regular paddling conditions
Definitely. Its shorter 13.5 cm depth reduces the chance of hitting the bottom, making it ideal for:
Low water levels
Launching and landing in shallow water
Exploring tight or shallow areas
It’s a great idea. Many paddlers carry a spare because:
Fins can be lost or damaged
Conditions can change (weed vs open water)
It gives you flexibility on every trip
We have been there and had sessions cut short due to damaged fin and now always carry spares in our kit bag.
Yes, especially in the UK, where many waterways are shallow, weedy, or slow-moving. A grass fin can dramatically improve your paddling experience in these environments.

Good price and pretty good fit for my STX board (I just had to file down one edge a little). Worked well as a river fin in shallow water and through small rapids
Hi Jonathan, thanks for the detailed feedback it really will help other customers in the future. It’s shame they are not a perfect fit for the STX Fin Box they obviously fit the NRS Fin Boxes perfectly. But it’s great to hear you were able to make it fit with minor alterations and happy with the fin performance out on the water. If only all manufactures could use the exact same fin box dimensions it sure would make life easier for us all!
